Dr. Kameelah Mu’Min Rashad (she/her), Research Advisory Board

Kameelah is a sought-after psychologist, speaker, and expert on the intersection of race, faith, identity, mental health, racial trauma and healing, and community wellness. She is the Founding President of Muslim Wellness Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healing and emotional well-being in the American Muslim community through dialogue, education, and training. Dr. Mu’Min Rashad is also the founding co-director of the National Black Muslim COVID Coalition, an initiative launched in collaboration with Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative to address the need for effective planning, preparedness, and organizing during the COVID-19 pandemic.  She is a Visiting Assistant Professor in Psychology and Muslim Studies at Chicago Theological Seminary and a Visiting Faculty at Bayan Islamic Graduate School.

Thinking of her life philosophy, Kameelah offers this reflection: “One of the most revered symbols of the Akan people of Ghana, West Africa, is Nyansapo (N-Yahn-Sah-Poh). It is a symbol of wisdom, ingenuity, intelligence, and patience. The Akan people believe that a wise person has the capacity to choose the best means to attain a goal and that being wise means using broad knowledge, learning and experience, and the ability to apply these skills towards practical ends. My philosophy of life as well as leadership is to constantly strive for balance and harmony—between who I am and what I do.”

Kameelah says she is thrilled to join Springtide, as it “offers a unique and meaningful opportunity to engage with brilliant colleagues on questions that excite me: How do we build authentic, growth-promoting spaces for young people, particularly those with minoritized or marginalized identities? In what ways can we raise critical consciousness and thought-provoking solutions on the importance of understanding the intersection of wellness, faith/religion, race, and identity?”
