Dr. Jonathan Coley
Dr. Jonathan Coley (he/him/his), Research Advisory Board
Dr. Jonathan Coley is an associate professor of Sociology at Oklahoma State University; his research focuses on religion, student activism, higher education, and gender and sexuality, with a special focus on LGBTQ issues at Christian colleges and universities in the United States. Jonathan founded an LGBTQ student group at his alma mater, Samford University, and has advised LGBTQ groups at multiple institutions. He is the author of Gay on God’s Campus: Mobilizing for LGBT Equality at Christian Colleges and Universities (University of North Carolina Press, 2018) and is currently working on an edited volume entitled LGBTQ Religious Activism (with Golshan Golriz). Jonathan also serves as editor-in-chief of The Sociological Quarterly.
Jonathan lives in Oklahoma with his husband, Kory, their two dogs, Ky and Louise, and their cat, Bernie. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, going to concerts, and playing trivia and board games with friends.
Jonathan is passionate about promoting understanding, acceptance, and equity for LGBTQ+ young people, including those who are marginalized for having have multiple identities.
He’s excited about working with Springtide so he can use his expertise to give voice to young people as they navigate questions about their identities, political views, and religious commitments.
