Full Description
Young people. Politics. We wanted to find out–is the popular narrative of apathy among young people true? What inspires them to engage in democracy?

The data was surprising. More than half of young people do not identify with a major political party. They don’t trust political institutions. They avoid calling themselves political because they associate it with negativity in the media, families, and friendships.

But yet they care. Deeply. About issues like education, the economy, climate change, and more. Their values, religion, and spirituality provide a framework for how to interpret social issues–more so than politics frames their values, young people say.
