Pope Francis Appoints Dr. Tricia Bruce to the General Secretariat of the Synod
Pope Francis recently named Springtide Research Institute director Dr. Tricia Bruce as one of six new consultants appointed to the General Secretariat of the Synod. This body of bishops and other appointees helps to prepare and implement themes identified within the Synod on Synodality, a multi-year, global conversation discerning future directions in the global Catholic Church.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Dr. Bruce applauds listening as a key element in the broader Synod process, not unlike Springtide’s own commitment to listening: “I am honored and humbled by the invitation to support a process that relies upon deep listening and widespread inclusion amid vast diversity.” She’s especially eager to support efforts that amplify the voices, experiences, and flourishing of young people, who define so much of what the Church is today and into the future. “Springtide’s research is essential to mapping our understanding of young people’s engagement with religion, spirituality, and the social issues that shape our everyday lives. Participating in these global conversations offers yet another reminder of the vital role of social-scientific data to inform next steps.”
Dr. Bruce is the only American in this group of newly-tapped consultants. Consultants offer expertise on specific issues outlined by the Synod. She is excited to embark on this new assignment, approaching it with openness and curiosity.
