Dr. Tricia Bruce, director of Springtide Research Institute, is one of six new consultants appointed to the General Secretariat of the Synod.

On February 17, the Vatican announced the second assembly of the Synod of Bishops on synodality will meet October 2–27, 2024, and will be preceded by a retreat for members September 30 – October 1.

In a “chirograph,” or brief papal document, Pope Francis stated that study groups will be established for in-depth study of some themes that emerged during the first session of the synod. The study groups will be coordinated by the dicasteries of the Roman Curia and the General Secretariat of the Synod.

In response to her appointment, Dr. Bruce told the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN), “I approach my appointment as a sociologist trained to listen deeply to identify patterns, commonalities, differences and directions. Having devoted my career to understanding the overlay of identity, organization and social change in religion – especially U.S. Catholicism – I am honored to serve the global Church in this capacity.
